Claire & Roger

We took over the Old Packet House in July 2014. During these years, we’ve established an excellent reputation for home cooked food, quality Guinness and real Ales, friendly service and a cosy atmosphere, despite the fact one of us supports City and the other Utd! Makes derby days interesting.

We love the busy environment in the pub, which includes a Monday for quiz, Friday for karaoke and home cooked Sunday lunches. Many of our customers are regulars, who we love to see returning, this gives us the reassurance we are doing things right. Our priority is to make our customers feel welcome, to spend time to get to know them and hear their stories.

It is a busy lifestyle running the Old Packet House but every week is different and providing a place for people to relax and enjoy themselves in our home.

Meet The Staff

Roger and Claire work every day in the pub and are complimented by a friendly efficient team, most of whom have worked here for more than 10 years.

Cook- Sallie has worked here for 25 years, firstly behind the bar and then 10 years ago, took over the kitchen as full time cook. She is proud of her food and works hard to come up with delicious daily and weekly specials, from Cajun Chicken burgers to sumptuous pies.

Day time staff – Most lunchtimes we are busy serving local workers delicious lunches and Ruth & Gail attend to our customers’ needs, always happy to help and ensure they back to work fed watered and on time.

In the evenings, Angie & Emily pride themselves on their efficient service, ensuring that there are no queues at the bar!

Pub History

There's been a pub on this site since the late 1800s, when it was the second stop for the packet boats journeying down the The Bridgewater Canal from Manchester.

And we're still here, serving real ales, superb Guinness, wines, spirits and great food for walkers, cyclists and locals alike.
